Into Nothing

He stares into nothing,
ponders everything.
He is seen.
He smiles,
a grimace of sorts.
Pleasant, friendly,
still... a bit weird.
Yes, it's awkward.
No one thinks
anything of it.
But, now
he is present,
and stares again
into nothing.
